Did you know that most state criminal anti-cruelty laws and the Federal Animal Welfare Act don’t protect farmed animals? And when the laws do protect, they are rarely enforced.

Meet an unsung hero … Lisa Miskella.

With her lifelong passion for helping abused animals, Lisa created Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary (FFAS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in mid 2018. Lisa has a diploma in animal psychology, animal behavior and is certified in goat husbandry.

After recovering from cancer, and loving animals since she was a child, Lisa pursued her dream of having a meaningful and worthwhile life rescuing animals. This led her to creating FFAS. Now she would like to expand her sanctuary to save even more lives.

Out from Slaughterhouses into a Loving Farm Sanctuary

Lisa’s focus is on farmed animals because of the overwhelming abuse to many breeds of farm animals, such as goats, sheep, rabbits, chicken, ducks, cows, pigs, horses and others.

These animals are cramped into cages too small to allow them to move even an inch in some cases. Many are physically altered without anesthesia, nor provided with medical care when sick or injured. They can’t roam around with freedom nor be with their young ones who are taken away at an early age for slaughter. Some actually have tried to save their young because they know they will never see them again.  This is the life of most farm animals. They only know abuse, torture and slaughter.

Animals are sentient beings…
They feel pain, fear, loss, joy, just like humans.

FFAS rescues animals from abusive situations, livestock auctions and slaughter houses. They rehabilitate these traumatized animals.

Lisa would like to expand her sanctuary so that she will be able to save more abused animals. Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary relies completely on donations to maintain the sanctuary.

Meet sweet Matilda

Matilda, a 2 month old goat, was rescued from a livestock auction in 2018. She was very ill with lice, worms, and coccidia, and an infected ear from the auction tag in her ear. Now she is healthy and safe at Freedom Farm.

Lisa remembers the day she saved a goat named Goldie at one of the auctions:

“There were hundreds of goats and sheep packed into a corral with no place to move around. I knew that I only had the space to adopt one or two from the group. I noticed Goldie looking at me and watching me walk around the room. No matter where I stood, she found a way to get through the crowded pen to stand in front of me. She chose me! Like many of our other rescues, she had lice and parasites. She also had a severe ear infection where the #39 identification tag was punched through. I’m happy to report that Goldie is healed and thriving at the farm! It’s so fun to watch her as she has taken on the role of  ‘mother’ to all of the younger rescues,” says Lisa

Some Eye-Opening Statistics

What are some of the statistics? About 54 billion animals have been killed in the U.S. for food in 2018. The 8 x 10″ cage is where egg-laying hens live their entire lives. Breeding pigs live in crates so small that they can’t move, 2 x 6.6′. These farms are called ‘factory farms’, where they are pumping out products at a very quick pace to meet demand and produce profits. 99% of farm animals are ‘living’ the factory farm nightmare.

Thank you to the Many Rescue Organizations

There are luckily many organizations helping animals. But given the enormity of the statistics, it is minuscule. People are becoming more aware of animal welfare. Awhile ago, I started making a list of 501c organizations that are helping animals. There were too many. About 100+ are listed on my directory of rescue organizations, in the hopes that it gives our viewers information to help the organizations who are at the frontlines of helping abused animals.

Some of the organizations listed on the directory are:

4 Ways You Can Help Animals

Many people don’t connect the dots between the food they eat, or the products they wear or use, to the sentient beings behind the products. We see cows hiding their calves because they already have learned that they will never see their babies again (so that humans can have their milk), or running after trucks that are driving away with their babies to the slaughterhouses.

Sharing Information

One way people can easily help is to share information across social media. This promotes awareness that can lead to additional help. One can share information about rescue organizations such as Lisa’s, as well as sharing petitions, articles of information, or great recipes that don’t use animal products.

Purchasing cruelty-free products

I created an online store that highlights compassionate products making it easier for people to find great cruelty-free and ‘go-green’ products. Parents can share great books about loving animals with young children. Once they get attached to animals, they will be life-long animal lovers.

Volunteering at organizations

Sanctuaries would love your onsite assistance for caring for their animals, with helping to maintain barns, and assisting with tours at their farms.

Donations

And maybe the easiest way is to donate funds so that organizations can support their animals.

Would you like to Help Lisa Save More Suffering Animals?

The truth is that the situation for farm animals is very heartbreaking. But Lisa is making a difference. She needs your help to expand her sanctuary to save more lives.

People feel good when they do something to help others. Luckily, more people are considering helping animals. Whether it’s by drinking plant-based milk, reducing the amount of meat eaten, buying less leather, or donating to animal welfare organizations, every little bit counts.

Please consider donating to Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary. Any amount would be appreciated. You will be helping to save a life.

I am creating a fundraiser for Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary to help them in their quest of helping abused animals and expanding the number of animals they can save. I hope that you can share this post to support this wonderful organization.

In appreciation for a donation of $50 or more, I will send individuals (continental U.S. only) my Helping Abused Animals bag to showcase your love of animals.

If you would like to donate,
100% of proceeds goes towards the
Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary

It will enable them to save more animals.

Thank you for caring about animals and considering to donate to help Lisa save more farm animals.  Sharing this information with your friends and social media connections will great help too.
